Every year, Hollywood calls attention to a buzzy new roster of talent, thanks to their breakout roles that command the screen. This was certainly the case in Breakout Stars of 2023. Some of the best films of the year delivered incredible performances from newcomers, like Charles Melton (May December), Cara Jade Myers (Killers of the Flower Moon), and Danielle Brooks (The Color Purple). Even better yet? These shining new stars came armed with distinctive red-carpet style, too.
As 2023 comes to a close, Vogue is taking a look at 10 of Tinseltown’s most exhilarating new stars who are bringing fresh fashion energy to the mix. Whether it was a colorful array of glitzy gowns or discreet suiting that quietly made a statement, these newly minted A-listers cultivated a unique approach to dressing. Below, meet them all. (And, psst, you can bet they’ll all be bringing some show-topping looks come 2024 awards season, too—watch this space.)
Rachel Sennott
Between her roles in Bottoms and The Idol, Rachel Sennott was the ultimate cool girl of 2023. Her edgy-chic style on the red carpet came complete with velvety one-shouldered gowns, leather moto mini dresses, and bright-pink party dresses. Hell, she even made the Y2K velour tracksuit look chic when attending Balenciaga’s pre-fall 2024 collection in L.A. Now that’s a skill.
Danielle Brooks
After lighting up the screen in Blitz Bazawule’s The Color Purple, Danielle Brooks is owning her moment in the spotlight—fashion included. The actor has enjoyed experimenting with silhouettes in a fun and refreshing way, choosing everything from ruffled denim skirts to skin-tight leather corsets. She pulls them all off. One of her best moments of the year, however, was nodding to her own film at the L.A. premiere in a purple Rahul Mishra Couture hooded gown.
Sandra Hüller (Breakout Stars of 2023)
German actor Sandra Hüller delivered a commanding performance in this year’s Anatomy of a Fall, and her red-carpet approach has been equally captivating to watch unfold. In a muted (but not boring!) color palette, she has favored sleek gowns from Dior Couture and Louis Vuitton and has also experimented with sculptural suits from contemporary labels like Cong Tri.
Barry Keoghan
Starring in Saltburn alongside Jacob Elordi, Barry Keoghan has emerged as one of the biggest heartthrobs of the year, and he’s got the slick style to match. The Internet went wild for his Givenchy suit vest and trousers at the 2023 Academy Museum Gala, but his fashion wins didn’t end there. The actor has also rocked everything from checked suits to edgy leather vests.
Cailee Spaeny
Starring as Priscilla Presley in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla, Cailee Spaeny nabbed one of the most-discussed movie roles of the year. The actor’s red-carpet style has proven to be worth the hype. Spaeny has slipped into elegant, refined looks that have a retro charm. Prim-and-proper bows, puff-sleeved shoulders, embellished bodices: The star has chosen frocks that nod to the days of Old Hollywood, albeit in a modern way.
Charles Melton
It’s tough to stand out in a film alongside Julianne Moore and Natalie Portman, but Charles Melton delivered a shining role in this year’s May December. On the red carpet, the actor has developed a sense of style that’s all about modern tailoring; think loosely-tailored suits worn without a shirt or crisp camp-collar shirts worn with dress pants. He’s nailed the art of casual-cool style.
Cara Jade Myers
d Chaday Scott’s Brooklyn Wedding Was a Love Letter to Their Caribbean Roots
In Killers of the Flower Moon, Indigenous star Cara Jade Myers shines in a powerhouse performance. Even better yet, Myers has used the step and repeat as an opportunity to spotlight Indigenous designers, wearing pieces from labels such as Jamie Okuma and Ataumbi Metals. The star has also perfected the art of glitzy Hollywood style, choosing dazzling gowns that are adorned with crystals and sequins. Disco ball dressing at its finest.

India Amarteifio
Young Hollywood star India Amarteifio captivated TV screens in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story this year. While her on-screen character embraces regal formalwear, Amarteifio’s real-life red carpet style has been equally as elegant. There have been strapless chiffon gowns, sequined mini dresses adorned with plumage, and bejeweled suits. She may not be actual royalty, but she sure is fashion royalty.
Taylor Zakhar Perez
With his starring role in Red, White, and Royal Blue, Taylor Zakhar Perez is a rising star to watch. After first being noticed in The Kissing Booth films, the actor is now further making his mark in Hollywood, with a fresh and current wardrobe to match. In his 2023 wardrobe? There were contemporary takes on suiting up, like the deconstructed white blazer she wore to Vogue World: London in September; he also embraced the classic trench and cargo pants at Burberry’s spring 2024 show.
